new you 2012

Aren’t New Years resolutions great! They offer the promise of a new start, a new you and for many, the hopes of a new wardrobe. However, for many of you, putting these promises of a slimmer, healthier you into practice are easier said than done.

The problem is life simply gets in the way.

From work to family to going out with your friends… after a few weeks, it can get difficult to stick to this new lifestyle and resist the temptation of going back to your old ways.

So what can you do?

You don’t have to let this years New Year resolution become an empty promise. With the right tools, you can set yourself on the path to a healthier, happier more confident you.

  1. Set small goals: How often have you said to yourself ‘I’d love to lose a stone’, only to be disappointed when after a few weeks you’ve only dropped a few pounds.
A common mistake amongst slimmers is setting your goals too high. So instead of saying I want to lose 2 stone in 2 months, set smaller more achievable goals and only look to the week ahead. Trying to lose 2lbs a week will ensure that you feel less pressured than facing the mountain of losing 2 stone.
  2. Don’t try to change everything at once: Transforming your diet doesn’t have to happen overnight. In fact, it would be more sensible to change your diet a little bit at a time so you aren’t faced with loads of cravings.Try doing this for example. If you currently eat chips 3 times a week, begin by cutting it out of 1 of your meals for 2 weeks.
After 2 weeks, reduce it to once a week and after a few more weeks, make it so you only have chips once every 2 weeks or even once a month.Try to do this with all your high calorie foods and offer yourself a healthier alternative instead.
  3. Exercise more: Unfortunately changing your diet alone isn’t enough to help you lose weight. It is important that you exercise too. Now if you are not a fan of the gym, there are others ways to boost your exercise levels. Walking for 40 minutes a day on your lunch break, taking the dog for the walk, the kids to the park or going for a swim with the family can all help you to burn calories. At the same time, to keep your motivational levels up, aim to exercise at the same time every day.
I suggest doing this either before you go to work, on your lunch break or after work (but before you go home). Set a time to exercise and keep to it. Deviate and you’ll soon start finding excuses not to do it.
  4. Try a slimming product: Sometimes all we need to get started when losing weight is a jump start and quality slimming products can offer you this boost. The key to getting it right is ensuring that you pick the right supplement for your diet.
For instance, if you currently eat a high fat diet, then introducing either a fat blocker or a fat burner into your diet would be beneficial as they would help to boost your metabolism and reduce the amount of fat which is stored in your body. A carb blocker in this instance wouldn’t be as helpful as your fat consumption is higher than your carbohydrates and contains more calories.
  5. Keep motivated: There are a number of tricks you can use which can help you to stay motivated and remove self doubt. And it is important that you strive to stay motivated, as loss of motivation is one of the biggest reasons why diets fail. Give these a go:- Write a pros list: create a list of all the benefits you’ll be able to experience by losing weight so that whenever you feel like giving up you can pull out this list and remind yourself of why you want to lose weight.
  • Give yourself a reward: incentives are a great way to stay motivated and can range anywhere from a meal out with friends for losing half a stone, a treat of a chocolate bar at the end of the week or a new outfit every time you drop a dress size. Offer yourself something to look forward to, and you’ll be keener to get there.
  • Get a friend involved: losing weight can be a lonely business, especially if you are eating differently from your partner or family. For this reason try to get a friend to go with you to the gym, the pool or to an aerobics class and don’t be afraid to get your family involved by encouraging them to eat better. Company makes the best motivation, especially if you have got a competitive side.

You can become the slimmer you that you’ve always wanted to be. So let this New Year spell a new start to your weight loss. With the support of the above tips, you can confidently take charge of your weight loss and feel great for 2012.
