Yoga may have developed a bit of a reputation for being female focussed but that doesn’t mean that it hasn’t got an array of health benefits for men too. In fact, yoga is universal. No one practice is more suitable for one sex than the other.

Instead, yoga can help to improve your breathing, posture, stress levels and ultimately your muscle toning.

How can Yoga help me?

Originating from Hindu meditation, yoga is renowned for its ability to improve your health both physically and mentally.

  • Improved circulation – yoga may not be as vigorous as other exercises, but it works on all major areas of your body and enables you to exert just as much effort as you would doing a high intensity exercise. As a result, yoga helps to improve the supply of oxygen rich blood to your body.
  • Increased metabolism – one of the main focuses of yoga is on the manipura chakra which is located in your abdomen. By focusing on this chakra, yoga is able to improve your metabolism and aid digestion.
  • Reduced stress – yoga is probably best known for its ability to help you deal with stress. Teaching you how to be present and meditate; yoga’s many breathing techniques can help you to overcome the stresses of the day and relax. And this is good for your body too, as the less stressed you are, the less inhibited your metabolism will be.
  • Insomnia – a common side effect of stress is insomnia, so it is easy to see how yoga can help to improve your sleeping patterns and leave you feeling refreshed and energised during the day.
  • Decreased back pain – sitting at a desk all day, poor posture and lifting things incorrectly can lead to back pain. Yoga can help to alleviate back pain by helping you to improve your posture and realign your back.
